The Rockhampton Region is proudly known as the Beef Capital of Australia, boasting major processing facilities, feedlot operations and extensive beef cattle production with the largest number of cattle in Australia found in the Fitzroy Region.

Rockhampton is now gaining a reputation for new agricultural opportunities presented through the Fitzroy Food Bowl, Queensland’s largest and most reliable water catchment.

Federal and State Government investments have been instrumental in establishing local water infrastructure projects such as Rookwood Weir to take full advantage of the Fitzroy River and allow the diversification of Rockhampton's agricultural industry.

Rockhampton is also well positioned to support growth in domestic and international markets for lamb, goat meat and pork production.

As the premier destination for beef cattle farming, Rockhampton provides direct access to grain growing areas, land, water, skilled staff and logistical support. Rockhampton is well positioned to support growth in domestic and international markets for lamb, goat meat and pork production together with existing beef cattle production.

Cropping

The Rockhampton Region has both irrigated cropping and dry land cropping that currently produces cotton, corn, sorghum, sunflowers and a variety of other crops.

Aquaculture

The Rockhampton Region is home to Queensland’s largest aquaculture development areas and is poised to be a major aquaculture hub close to major transport and logistic options. The Rockhampton Region is ideal for the production of species including barramundi, prawns, cobia, seaweed and algae.

Horticulture

Horticulture production in the Rockhampton Region is an exciting opportunity that will soon be enhanced with increased availability and reliability of water from Rookwood Weir.

Food Manufacturing

In Central Queensland, all roads lead to Rockhampton which sees the transportation of food coming through the Region which provides opportunities for food manufacturing and value adding processes.
